BRAZIL’S CENTER SOUTH IS EXPECTED TO PRODUCE 41.6 MILLION TONS OF SUGAR IN 2024, BP BUNGE DIRECTOR SAYS

According to BP Bunge Bioenergia, sugar output in Brazil will grow in 2024, with mills in the Center-South area producing 41.6 million tons, a 1.7% increase over the current crop year. The improvement in production capacity has been enabled by mills that were formerly facing financial issues, now reopening, or expanding activities as a result of the inflation-managing tactics that impacted the industry a decade ago. Sugar prices are also encouraging fresh investments, while idle mills have restarted even with outdated equipment. Despite less ideal weather conditions leading to decreased productivity, Brazil continues to be a key player in the international sugar market, as India and Thailand are both facing poor harvest forecasts.
