BRAZIL’S 2022/23 SUGAR OUTPUT IS EXPECTED TO GROW BY 15%

According to Conab (National Supply Company), Brazil’s sugarcane crop is expected to increase by 1.9% to 596 million tons. Sugar output in the 2022/23 season is expected to increase 15% to 40.3 million tons, as mills have been distributing more sugarcane to produce sugar and less for ethanol, whose production is likely to fall. The country’s sugarcane crop is expected to recover productivity and offset the loss in the planted area, which was impacted because of greater competition from soybean and corn crops. The sugarcane crop in the Center-South region, which accounts for most of the Brazilian production, is expected to grow by 1.7%, to 539 million tons. Sugar production in the Center-South region is expected to grow 13.3% to 36.4 million tons. In Brazil, the sugar mix is expected to grow 14%, to 296.9 million tons. Conab projects an increase of 3.2% in the average productivity of Brazil’s 2022/23 sugarcane harvest to 72,609 kilos per hectare.
