BRAZIL’S 2022/23 SOYBEAN CROP REACHES NEW PRODUCTIVITY RECORDS

Brazil’s Supply Company (Conab) estimated the 2022–23 Brazilian soybean crop on Thursday (13) at a record 153.6 million tons, with harvest nearing its end in several regions. Conab also projected an average yield never seen in the country, the world’s largest producer and exporter of the oilseed. While the planted area increased by 5% annually to 43.5 million hectares, the harvest was earlier predicted to set a record. The national average productivity index was raised by Conab to 3,527 kg/hectare, the highest amount ever noted. According to Conab, this indicates an increase of 16.6% compared to the previous cycle. That amounts to 1 kg/ha higher than the highest figure ever recorded, which was seen in 2020–21.
