BRAZIL TO REDUCE FEDERAL TAXES ON IMPORTS OF CORN, FPA SAYS

The droughts and frosts this year have harmed corn production in Brazil. A possible solution to prevent shortages should be importing corn for the international market. However, the drop in production has increased prices. Thus, the Federal Government has decided to approve a measure of exemption of PIS and Cofins taxes from corn imports – said the vice president of the Parliamentary Front for Agriculture (FPA), deputy Evair de Melo (PP-ES), after a meeting with the Ministry of Economy on September 16. The deputy explains that “the agricultural sector will be able to continue producing and the country will be able to continue working, with no shortage of corn and with no shortage of animal protein”. Corn is also processed into a multitude of food and industrial products (150 different products) including starch, oil, paper, medicines, clothing, paints, etc.
