BRAZIL SEES LEADERSHIP IN LOW-CARBON FERTILIZER MARKET

Brazil aims to lead a new fertilizer industry focused on decarbonization, bio-inputs and efficiency, while remaining structurally dependent on imports. According to Confert, the country leads global consumption growth and holds the largest reserve of bioactive compounds. The government plans to invest BRL 50 million in 2026 to establish the Center of Excellence in Fertilizers and Plant Nutrition (Cefenp), a public-private platform to scale 84 technologies currently undeployed by Embrapa. Created under the National Fertilizer Plan, Cefenp has 21 members and hubs across five states. Demand outlook is rising, with pasture recovery programs expected to add 10 Mt to fertilizer consumption over the next decade. Without technological gains and domestic supply expansion, import dependence may persist, constrained by high gas costs and limited competitiveness in conventional production.
