BRAZIL: RICE EXPORTS DIP IN NOVEMBER WHILE IMPORTS SURGE

In November, paddy rice exports reached 139.9 thousand tonnes, equivalent to US$56.6 million, according to Abiarroz (Brazilian Rice Industry Association), which compiled data from the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade, and Services (MDIC). Compared to the same month in 2022, there was a 5.2% decline in export volume and a 4.4% increase in revenue. Out of the total exported in November, 92.5 thousand tonnes corresponded to processed rice, showing a 160.3% growth year-on-year. The revenue from this rice increased by 160.8% in the same comparison frame, reaching US$35.9 million. Last month, Brazilian rice imports totaled 97.7 thousand tonnes, marking a 3.7% increase compared to November 2022. These purchases amounted to US$42.7 million, representing a 51.2% annual increase.
