BRAZIL: PRODUCTION OF ANHYDROUS ETHANOL FROM CORN SOARS AFTER EXEMPTION

Due to the federal exemption of fuels, which made gasoline more affordable than the hydrous ethanol, anhydrous ethanol production from corn in Brazil would be 17% more than previously projected, said on Thursday the Union National Corn Ethanol Association (UNEM). Anhydrous ethanol production, which is combined with gasoline to create fuel, was previously projected to use 1.47 billion liters of corn ethanol, but now it is likely to reach 1.72 billion liters by the end of March. With the exemption of PIS/Cofins, hydrous ethanol from corn output, which had been forecast to reach 2.92 billion liters, should end the season at 2.67 billion liters.
