Brazil is rapidly closing the gap with Argentina in the global soymeal export market. First half 2026 shipments are projected above 12.3 million tonnes, compared with 13.3 million tonnes for Argentina, according to the Rosario Board of Trade. Argentina’s export lead could shrink to about 8% by June, down from 23% a year earlier and 86% in 2021. Brazil’s growth stems from expanding biodiesel demand, which boosts soybean oil consumption, supports higher crushing volumes and increases soymeal export availability. In Argentina, stagnant processing capacity and weaker soymeal prices are squeezing crusher margins, leaving profitability increasingly tied to soybean oil prices. Export soymeal values are already 10% below their May peak, raising concerns over further pressure on local soybean purchasing power.
