BRAZIL PORTS SEE SUSTAINABILITY REQUIREMENTS RISE UNDER MERCOSUR-EU DEAL

The Mercosur-EU agreement is set to raise environmental standards across Brazil’s port and logistics sectors, aligning trade flows with stricter carbon reduction, energy transition and supply chain traceability requirements. The Ministry of Ports and Airports said sustainability has become a key competitiveness factor as European regulations increasingly affect shipping and international trade. Ongoing measures include port electrification, renewable energy adoption, ESG criteria in concessions and implementation of the ministry’s sustainability framework. Brazil is also advancing decarbonized shipping corridors, with feasibility studies underway alongside Norway and the Netherlands to establish lower-emission maritime routes between South America and Europe.
