BRAZIL MORE THAN DOUBLED ETHANOL IMPORTS IN DECEMBER 2018

The volume of ethanol imported by Brazil reached 172.36 million liters in December, up 106.24% from the total of 83.57 million liters purchased abroad in the same month of 2017. The total is also 25.18% higher than the 137.69 million liters of ethanol imported in November last year. The data are from the Ministry of Industry, Foreign Trade and Services (MDIC). As a result, the total imported volume of biofuel amounted to 1.753 billion liters in 2018, down 3.9% from the accumulated 1.824 billion liters in 2017. The volume of imported biofuel in December was 60.5% higher than the total volume exported. Last month, the country sent 107.4 million liters of ethanol to the foreign market, according to the MDIC. The total imported in 2018 surpassed by 3.2% the exports, of 1.699 billion liters. Revenue: Brazilian imports of ethanol amounted to US $ 72.65 million in the last month of last year, up 91.28% from US $ 37.98 million in December 2017 and 31.11% , 41 million in November 2018. With the result, imports of ethanol traded US $ 743.26 million in 2018, down 22.47% on the expense of buying biofuel in 2017, from US $ 958.65 million. The trade balance of ethanol generated a deficit of US $ 19.15 million in December, as exports traded US $ 53.5 million in the month. However, the balance of trade last year was a surplus of US $ 157.34 million, as foreign sales totaled US $ 900.60 million in 2018.
