BRAZIL HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BOOST RICE EXPORTS TO SUPPLY WORLD DEMAND

Elton Doeler, president of Abiarroz, highlights the potential of Brazil and Mercosur to become the world’s third or fourth-largest high-quality rice export hub. He stated that there is a global rice production deficit compared to consumption needs. According to his figures, China (145,946 thousand tons), India (125 thousand tons), and Bangladesh (35,850 thousand tons) are the leading cereal producers, with Brazil ranking tenth (7,072 thousand tons). Consumption in the first three categories is also exceptional: 154,946 thousand tons, 108,500 thousand tons, and 37,300 thousand tons, respectively. India (21,500 thousand tons), Thailand (8,200 thousand tons), and Vietnam (6,800 thousand tons) lead the rice export rankings, with Brazil in ninth place (1,100 thousand tons).
