BRAZIL COASTAL SHIPPING MOVES 1.85M TONS IN NORTH IN JANUARY

Coastal shipping handled 1.85 million tons in Brazil’s North region in January, up 5.8% year-on-year, according to Antaq. Volumes were concentrated in Amazonas (1.29 million tons) and Pará (552,300 tons), with flows directed to Northeast and Southeast ports. Key cargoes included bauxite (875,100 tons), containers (576,900 tons) and liquid bulk, such as refined petroleum products (293,700 tons) and crude (69,300 tons), alongside cement and LPG. Growth underscores the modal’s role in areas with limited land infrastructure and reflects improved regulatory conditions under programs like BR do Mar. Coastal shipping remains a key logistics backbone for regional distribution and supply.
