BARGES CARRYING 60% OF CARGO HEAD TO NORTH ARC PORTS AMID DROUGHT

The ongoing drought in the Northern region is currently causing transportation issues for the grain crop from the Midwest through North Arc ports. The barges are carrying only 60% of their cargo, which is equivalent to 1,200 tons per vessel, according to Edeon Vaz Ferreira, the executive director of the Pro-Logistics Movement. He added that the level of the Madeira River has been rising lately. This has hampered the logistics of moving soybeans from the BR-364 highway to North Arc Ports, including Itacoatiara (AM), Santarém (PA), and Barcarena (PA). Cargo is being sent to the ports of Santos (SP) and Paranaguá (PR), which may have an impact on freight prices.
