BABITONGA BAY PORT COMPLEX GAINS NEW ANCHORAGE POINT

The Port Authority of São Francisco do Sul has established a new anchorage point in Babitonga Bay to accommodate increased ship traffic. With nine locations in total, vessels can wait there before heading to port terminals or seek refuge during adverse weather conditions. Approved by the Brazilian Navy, the new point addresses the impact caused by the Southern Gas Terminal’s construction. According to Guilherme Medeiros, Director of Operations and Logistics, the anchorage points also aid docking maneuvers due to the bay’s length, where ships with deeper drafts need to wait for optimal tide depth. Anticipating increased port activity, the Port Authority collaborates with other terminals, pilots, and the Navy to explore new anchorage areas.
