AUTHORITIES FAIL TO REFLOAT ORE VESSEL IN MARANHÃO

On Sunday (02/18), two attempts to refloat the ship Forte São Felipe, carrying 23,000 tonnes of bauxite, failed in Maranhão’s Estreito dos Coqueiros channel. Departing from the Port of Juruti, the Brazilian-flagged vessel ran aground during cargo unloading due to a crane malfunction. Despite efforts involving six tugboats, the ship remains stranded. Authorities plan to lighten the load and await a higher tide expected on the 27th. While Maranhão Aluminum Consortium (Alumar) doesn’t operate the ship, they’re providing support.
