ANTAQ COLLABORATING WITH IBAMA TO SURVEY RESIDUE HANDLING BY VESSELS AT SANTOS

ANTAQ inspectors will act until October 7 in a joint mega operation at the Port of Santos. This is Operation Discard, coordinated by Ibama and with the participation of the Brazilian Navy, Anvisa, the Federal Police and the Internal Revenue Service. The action started on the last 13th. The objective is to monitor how the vessels are removing their residues. Several vessels are due to be inspected. The Port of Santos is organizing inspections, informing the routes, loads and the permanence of these vessels in the anchorage area. With the data presented, actions on land, water and air are traced. For the onshore operation, the teams from the Port of Santos, ANTAQ, Ibama and Anvisa will verify the waste removal documentation. The air team informs the sea team about the ships that have open holds in the anchorage area. These inspectors will then go on board to check if there is a cleaning service. During the inspections, if any irregularity of non-compliance with the rule of the Port of Santos regarding the removal of waste is evidenced, ANTAQ will deal with the issue.
