BRAZIL SHOULD START SHIPPING ETHANOL TO SAF THIS YEAR

Brazil aims to begin ethanol exports for aviation biokerosene (SAF) this year, albeit in limited quantities due to limited SAF production globally. By 2030, 20-30% of SAF demand could be met by ethanol, with estimates suggesting 9-12 billion liters annually by 2030. Brazil, potentially the main supplier, stands to export 5 billion liters annually by then. The transition to SAF aims to reduce aviation’s carbon emissions, aligning with International Air Transport Association (IATA) agreements. While ethanol faces competition from other sources like vegetable oils, it appears a promising option due to its competitive pricing. Brazilian companies are gearing up for certification to supply ethanol, anticipating growth in SAF production from 2027 onwards.
