The Port of Maceió Administration (APMC) registered a growth of 9.23% in cargo handling in 2022 compared to 2021. 2,356,240 tons were handled, while in the previous year, the port in the capital of Alagoas handled 2,157,144 tons. In addition to the increase in the total number of cargo handled, growth can also be seen in the comparison of the nature of cargo, with an increase of 6.09% in the transport of solid bulk; 12.18% in liquid bulk; and 446.67% in general cargo. Among the products transported in 2022, sugar in bags, bulk sugar, fertilizer, gasoline and molasses lead the ranking. Being a traditionally bulk port, 80% of cargo handling in the year referred to consists of the export and import of solid bulk, with emphasis on bulk sugar.
