Brazilian exports closed in December 2018 with an expressive surplus of 191K tons. According to the balance sheet of the Brazilian Rice Industry Association (Abiarroz) with data from the Ministry of Industry and Foreign Trade from January to December 2018, Brazil exported a total of 1.4 million tons of rice, generating $ 467 million in business. Of the total exported in 2018, the paddy rice stands out first for the record of 592K tons, with Venezuela as its main destination. The main destination of rice benefited was Peru, presented a record of 82.4K tons, totaling US $ 40.8 million in business. The countries Senegal, Nicaragua, Cuba, Costa Rica and the USA also stood out as destination of the Brazilian rice with important volumes. Brazilian Rice manager Gustavo Ludwig explains that “this year’s exports were important to regulate the market and consolidate Brazil’s presence in the prospected markets. The expectation is to keep the level of exports high for the next few years. ”
