RIO GRANDE PORT POSTS 3,100 VESSEL CALLS AS DREDGING REACHES 65% OF TARGET

Port of Rio Grande handled about 3,100 vessel calls in 2025, confirming the recovery of operations following the 2024 floods. Combined traffic across Rio Grande, Pelotas and Porto Alegre ports, all managed by Portos RS, approached 4,000 vessel calls during the year. The authority is also rolling out a Vessel Traffic System (VTS) to strengthen maritime traffic control and navigation safety. Across Rio Grande do Sul’s waterways, dredging operations have removed 13 million cubic meters of sediment, equivalent to 65% of the volume targeted under the state recovery program. Three dredging fronts are operating simultaneously to restore navigability and support cargo flows to regional ports, while disposal areas remain subject to ongoing environmental monitoring.
