PETROBRAS EXPANDS REFINING CAPACITY TO REDUCE DIESEL IMPORTS FROM 29% TO 15%.

Petrobras plans to expand refining capacity to cut Brazil’s dependence on diesel imports from the current 29% to 15%, according to CEO Magda Chambriard. Speaking in Rio de Janeiro, Chambriard said the company’s refining system, with capacity of approximately 1.8 million barrels per day, is undergoing expansion through projects already under development. While no timeline was disclosed, Petrobras reiterated its objective of achieving diesel self-sufficiency after reducing import requirements. The strategy aims to strengthen domestic fuel supply, reduce exposure to international diesel markets, and increase utilization of Brazil’s refining assets. The announcement reinforces Petrobras’ focus on downstream investments as the country seeks greater energy security and lower reliance on imported middle distillates.
