PORT OF NATAL: FIRST PHASE OF DREDGING EXPECTED TO BE COMPLETED WITHIN 120 DAYS

Phase one dredging at the Port of Natal began on April 24 after delays linked to licensing approvals. The 120-day campaign will deepen the access channel to 12.5 m, from the current 10 m, enabling vessels up to 237 m LOA, according to Codern. Works are executed by DTA Engenharia. The second phase, covering the turning basin, remains pending environmental clearance, with full completion targeted for 2026 and total capex of BRL 54.5 million. Increased draft is expected to expand throughput capacity and support new cargo segments, including live cattle shipments, with a vessel scheduled for June. Additional upgrades include quay rehabilitation and photovoltaic systems. In parallel, the NAT01 terminal was awarded in February to Fomento do Brasil Mineração, with BRL 55.17 million in planned investments over 15 years, focused on iron ore exports.
