2021/22 BRAZILIAN CORN CROP IS EXPECTED TO REACH 116.1 MILLION TONS, DATAGRO SAYS

The corn planting area of the 2021/22 summer crop is expected to increase 5% from 4.4 million hectares to 4.6 million, with 3.11 million in the Center-South region (up 4% from the 2020/21 season), and 1.49 million in the North-Northeast region (up 6% over the previous season), according to DATAGRO. The entity has also revised upward the winter corn crop area, from 17.69 million hectares in May to 17.96 million, with 15.21 million in the Center-South region and 2.75 million in the North-Northeast region, up 12% from last year. Brazil’s potential output for the second harvest is 91.25 million tons, an increase of 45% over the 62.72 million tons of the cracked 2021 season. The Center-South region’s output would be 83,55 million tons, and the North-Northeast region would produce 7.7 million. Brazil’s total area was forecast at 22.57 million hectares this season, 10% higher than the 20.47 million last year.
