SUGARCANE CRUSH HITS RECORD IN PARAIBA

Thanks to the heavy rains that have been falling since August 2022, the sugar-energy industry in Paraba saw a record volume of sugarcane crushed during the 2022–2023 season. Over 7 million tons of sugarcane are expected to be produced, breaking the previous high set in 1980. According to Marcelo Martins, an economist at Sindalcool-PB, the crop’s yield grew dramatically despite the planted area being the same as the prior year. The difference from the previous harvest is remarkable, with an increase of almost 30% in sugarcane crushing, a difference of more than 1.5 million tons, and increases of between 40% and 25% in the production of sugar and ethanol.
