PORT OF AÇU TO STRUCTURE PLATFORM DECOMMISSIONING FACILITY

Petrobras launches an oil platform decommissioning program, aiming to decommission over 50 platforms by 2034. Port of Açu signs a contract with Petrobras to dismantle three platforms, initiating a new business line. CEO Eugênio Figueiredo plans to create a “sustainable decommissioning center.” The service includes thorough processes like cleaning structures and proper disposal of effluents. By 2028, Petrobras aims to decommission 23 platforms, with a potential total of 58 platforms in the domestic market. Port of Açu’s strategic advantages position it to meet the demand, with plans for a moored structure to enhance safety and reduce costs. Global offshore decommissioning spending is estimated at $100 billion by 2030. Port of Açu considers expanding the decommissioning process beyond oil rigs to the shipbuilding industry, aiming to address environmental concerns and industry needs in the South Atlantic.
