During a public hearing on Thursday (28) at the Committee on Agriculture and Agrarian Reform of the Federal Senate, the Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock of Brazil (CNA) supported the use of rock dust, an input which has already been regulated in Brazil, to improve the quality of the soil. The entity’s deputy director, Reginaldo Minaré, defended the use of remineralizers, recalling that remineralization closely imitates natural geological interactions. However, Minaré pointed out that, although the remineralization process has the same use of chemical fertilizers, it cannot completely replace chemical fertilizer and has very different commercial and production logistics. According to him, although the production is feasible in Brazil, it is a regional production that needs a differentiated business model. The production of rock dust must take place at nearly 300 km from the place where the product will be used.
