In 2024-25, Mato Grosso produced 6.70 billion liters of ethanol, a 17.09% increase, and is now the second largest producer in Brazil, behind only São Paulo. The state’s corn ethanol production surged by 23.65%, totaling 5.62 million m³ (+23.77%), while byproducts like DDG/DDGS and corn oil also saw significant growth (28.28% and 29.92%, respectively). Sugarcane-based ethanol production declined by 8.63%, with a drop in sugarcane crushing. Corn ethanol output is likely to rise further in 2025-26, while sugarcane volumes are projected to stabilize. Long-term projections suggest corn crushing could reach 80 million tons, pushing ethanol production beyond 14 million m³. Bioind-MT and IMEA say the state is Brazil’s bioenergy powerhouse, driven by its vast scale, innovation, and commitment to sustainability.
