BRL 22 BILLION INVESTMENT IN SANTOS PORT SETS STAGE FOR MODERNIZATION AND CITY INTEGRATION

According to Anderson Pomini, president of the Port of São Paulo Authority (APS), the Port of Santos’s investment plan has more than doubled in one year and amounts BRL 22 billion. Combining BRL 10 billion from the private sector with BRL 12 billion from state resources, the initiative intends to upgrade infrastructure and improve city integration. Among the major projects are the Santos-Guarujá tunnel, which will get BRL 6 billion in addition to the deepening of the navigation channel, new viaducts and building of Tecon Santos 10, the biggest container terminal in the Southern Hemisphere. A retroport logistics condo will be built. The plan calls for urban improvements like Valongo Park and a passenger cruise terminal. Modernization has social, environmental, and financial implications and displaces stilt house families.
