BRAZIL’S SUGAR-ENERGY INDUSTRY POISED TO LEAD THE ENERGY TRANSITION, SAYS UNICA

Test findings from the Mauá Institute of Technology indicate that by raising the ethanol mix in gasoline from 27% to 30% (E30), the Brazilian sugar-energy sector is poised to advance with the energy transition. The study revealed that E30 can lower annual greenhouse gas emissions by 1.7 million tons and does not compromise vehicle performance. The initiative is also supposed to generate 25 thousand jobs, increase ethanol demand by 1.5 billion liters annually, and draw BRL 9 billion in investments. Head of the Sugarcane and Bioenergy Industry Union (Unica), Evandro Gussi said Brazil is positioned to lead the worldwide energy transition, therefore promoting national energy security and reducing dependency on gasoline imports. The next step will be analysis done by the National Energy Policy Council (CNPE).
