On February 21, the Port of Itaqui and Transpetro tested Ship-to-Ship (STS) operations at Berth 108, which could cut operational time by up to a third. The test, involving vessels STI Jardins and Elandra Star, confirmed the safety and feasibility of STS transfers. Itaqui’s first STS operation occurred in 2023 at Berth 106, and since then, 28 have been completed. The port is a major hub for petroleum derivatives and Brazil’s top diesel-handling port. Expanding to Berth 108 boosts capacity, allowing two simultaneous STS operations, enhancing logistics, and reducing costs. The port now seeks authorization from the Brazilian Navy and ANP to fully implement STS operations, solidifying its strategic importance in the national fuel network.
