The Rio Grande do Sul port complex handled 3.56 million tonnes in January 2025, a 7.48% increase from the previous year, with 326 vessel calls. The Port of Rio Grande led growth with 3.45 million tonnes, driven by dry bulk (57.3%), general cargo (35%), and liquid bulk (7.7%). Sulfate shipments surged 613.43%, phosphates rose 187.11%, meat exports increased 39.27%, and pulp rose 29.92%. Container throughput hit 84,643 TEUs, up 46.27%. Key export destinations included Vietnam, China, and Saudi Arabia, while imports came from China and Argentina. The Port of Pelotas moved 89,093 tonnes, mainly timber, while Porto Alegre handled 28,864 tonnes, with fertilizers, wheat, and salt as main cargoes. Portos RS attributed the growth to industrial sector demand and efficient port management.
