PETROBRAS DISCOVERS FRESH OIL LAYER IN THE PRE-SALT SANTOS BASIN

Petrobras discovered a new oil deposit below the main reservoir of the Búzios field in the Santos Basin’s pre-salt, following tests at a depth of 5,600 meters. The analysis of the material obtained is still ongoing. The Buzios field, managed by Petrobras in collaboration with CNOOC and CNPC, is the world’s largest ultra-deepwater area, producing more than 1 billion barrels since 2015. In 2024, it accounted for 19.53% of Brazil’s maritime production, up 2.4% from 2023. During the year, the country’s average production was 4.322 million barrels of oil equivalent per day, with 78% coming from pre-salt. The discovery confirms the area’s strategic importance to Petrobras and Brazil’s energy sector.
