CORN SALES IN MATO GROSSO OUTPERFORM PRIOR YEARS

According to Imea, on February 10, corn sales in Mato Grosso advanced in the 2023-24 harvest, accounting for 96.62% of total production. This 2.96 percentage rise over December was driven by the need for farmers to clear out warehouses because of the 4.45% drop in corn prices, which closed at BRL 55.97 per bag. Commercialization is 8.30 points ahead of the previous harvest. Sales increased by 5.5 percentage points to 32.16% for the 2024-25 crop, owing to a 1.75% price increase that reached BRL 46.42 a bag, covering production costs. Regardless, the next harvest sales are 12.81% lower than typical when compared to the previous five harvests, indicating market uncertainty regarding future corn prices and demand.
