PORT OF SANTOS INTENSIFIES TREATMENT AND PEST CONTROL IN 2024

In 2024, the Port Authority of Santos (APS) reported 799 phytosanitary treatments (fumigations) to control agricultural pests, a 3% increase from 2023. These treatments, conducted on ship holds, containers, and pallets, aim to prevent pest entry and meet international trade standards. China accounted for 35% of treated shipments, followed by Vietnam (9%) and Indonesia (7%). The primary fumigated cargoes were soybeans (48.5%), corn (32.5%), and soybean meal (18.8%). Of the total treatments, 664 were performed in ship holds, covering over 42.5 million tons of goods.
