NEW SOYBEAN FORECASTS POINT TO POTENTIAL RECORD-BREAKING HARVEST

The Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics (Imea) forecasts a record soybean harvest in Mato Grosso for 2024-25, with a planted area of 12.66 million hectares, up 1.47% over the previous harvest. The predicted productivity is 62.07 bags per hectare, up 19.01% from the last cycle, for a total of 47.15 million tons, a 20.76% increase. Despite the early delay in rainfall, normalization encouraged soybean development, while excessive rainfall during harvest may impact grain quality. Due to increases in the costs of inputs like seeds and fertilizers, the projected cost of production for 2025-26 was BRL 4,004.99/ha, an increase of 3.92%. At a break-even point of BRL 96.29/bag, the effective operating cost (EOC) was 5,582.04 BRL/ha. Despite prices remaining 11.31% over equilibrium until December 2024, producers still feel the impact of the recent decline.
