BRAZIL ACHIEVED HISTORIC SUGAR EXPORTS IN 2024, YET 2025 OUTLOOK REMAINS CLOUDY

Brazil, the world’s largest sugar producer and exporter, had a record year in 2024, exporting 38.23 million tons and generating USD 18.60 billion, an increase of 22.2% in volume and 18% in revenue compared to the previous year. This increase is due to high international demand, particularly the challenges in sugar production in India. Although a slight drop in value per ton reduced foreign exchange revenue, increased demand boosted exports. Predictions for 2025 show a decrease in exports, with expected amounts ranging from 35 to 36 million tons, lower than the record set in 2024 due to reduced domestic supply.
