IMPROVED SUGARCANE PRODUCTION: NEW LAW BENEFITS THE ENVIRONMENT AND FARMERS

Law 15.082/24 provides biofuel sugarcane producers as a part of decarbonization credit profits. The compensation was formerly limited to ethanol manufacturing facilities. The law expands RenovaBio (Brazilian Biofuel Policy) to include independent producers. The rule amending the Petroleum Law was published in the Official Gazette of the Union (DOU) on the last day of 2025, requiring the distributor to certify that its stock and biodiesel purchases match the volume of B diesel sold. Distributors cannot sell any diesel without this documentation. The law strengthens sector control by increasing fines for agents not reaching decarbonization goals.
