2024/25 HARVEST: SUGARCANE CRUSHING REACHES 582.61 MILLION TONS

The 2024/25 sugarcane harvest in Brazil saw a 2.24% drop by November 16, reaching 582.61 million tons, impacted by rains and operational challenges. Unica reported a significant mid-November decline, with 16.46 million tons processed, 52.81% less than the prior year. While Total Recoverable Sugars (ATR) improved slightly (1.22%), sugar production fell 59.18% in November’s first half. Ethanol production showed mixed results: hydrated ethanol rose 12% overall, while anhydrous ethanol fell 6.42%. Corn-based ethanol saw a 27.02% increase, reaching 4.82 billion liters. Unfavorable weather and fewer operational units were key factors behind the slowdown, with only 204 sugarcane-processing plants active mid-November versus 237 last year.
