ITAJAÍ PORT AUTHORITY TO BECOME A STATE-OWNED COMPANY

The Itajaí City Council approved a proposal to transform the Itajaí Port Authority into a state-owned company tied to the mayor’s office, fulfilling a legal requirement to renew the port delegation agreement with the municipality. The current agreement ends on December 31, and the federal government has not guaranteed continued municipal control. Alternatives include transferring the port to federal control or linking it to the federal state-owned company managing the Port of Santos, raising concerns about centralized decision-making in Brasília. The project awaits Mayor Volnei Morastoni’s approval.
