The International Sugar Organization (ISO) has revised its global sugar deficit forecast for the 2024/25 harvest to 2.51 million tonnes, down from 3.58 million. For 2023/24, a global sugar surplus of 1.31 million tonnes is now expected, reversing a prior deficit estimate of 200,000 tonnes. Lower consumption estimates drove the surplus, with forecasts reduced to 181.58 million tonnes for 2024/25 and 180.05 million tonnes for 2023/24. Production for 2024/25 is projected at 179.07 million tonnes, slightly below earlier estimates and 1.3% lower than the 2023/24 record of 181.37 million tonnes.
