Starting October, Brazil’s Port of Pecém will use renewable energy certified by the International Renewable Energy Certificate (I-REC) under a R$41 million contract with Casa dos Ventos, moving from regulated to free energy market for price stability. This shift supports Pecém’s decarbonization goals, aiming to electrify 100% of its operations, currently at 70%. Equipment like cranes and conveyor belts will rely more on renewable power, reducing emissions from docked ships. With an energy demand equal to a city of 80,000, Pecém is committed to sustainable operations, investing R$15 million next year to bolster energy reliability.
