MUCURIPE PORT EMERGES AS BRAZIL’S LEADING WHEAT IMPORT HUB AMID RECORD-BREAKING GROWTH

The Port of Mucuripe (Fortaleza) set a five-year record for wheat imports in the first half of 2024, receiving 577,000 tonnes, a 7.5% increase compared to the same period in 2023. The port became Brazil’s largest wheat hub in 2022, with most wheat coming from Argentina, Uruguay, and Russia. Three major mills process the wheat into flour and bran. A partnership between the mills and Tergran manages imports, with a 2021 lease expanding operations. Wheat is crucial for local industries, especially after floods in Rio Grande do Sul impacted domestic production.
