PORT OF SANTOS: AGRICULTURE HITS CARGO HANDLING RECORD

The Port of Santos handled 16.3 million tons of cargo in June, a 4.6% increase compared to the previous month. This brings the half-year total to 89.1 million tons, reflecting a 10.2% growth. This is the best performance ever recorded throughout these timeframes. Anderson Pomini, president of APS, credits these accomplishments to the measures put in place by the Ministry of Ports and Airports, as well as the improvements in port infrastructure. The sectors experiencing the most growth were sugar, cellulose, pork, coffee, and fuel oil. The volume of containerized cargo increased by 16.5% over the semester. Diesel and diesel discharges increased 66.9%. In the first half of the year, 2,777 ships berthed, representing a 4.3% increase.
