GRAIN TERMINAL IN MARANHÃO TO RECEIVE BRL 1.6 BILLION FOR EXPORT INCREASE

The Maranhão Grain Terminal (Tegram) will invest BRL 1.6 billion in expansion, adding a new berth and enabling extra shipping of 8.5 million tons of grains. Tegram handled 15 million tons last year. According to Marcos Pepe Bertoni, Tegram’s president, the terminal has strategic importance for Brazil’s Northern Arc ports, mainly because of its train-receiving capacities. The expansion will improve storage and receiving capacity by 70%, accelerating harvesting and planting, as well as saving money on freight. The railway infrastructure will also be enhanced with the building of a “pear” to allow for more efficient wagon maneuvers.
