OFF-SEASON CORN HARVEST REACHES 21% IN CENTER-SOUTH

The off-season corn harvest in south-central Brazil has reached 21% of the cultivated area as of Thursday (13). This represents a considerable improvement above the previous week’s 10% and the 5% recorded in the same period last year. The quick pace is due to the hot, dry weather, which has accelerated grain moisture loss. Early planting and a shorter crop cycle have also contributed to the rapid growth. Harvest production averages have been high in places with better circumstances, such as Mato Grosso and Goias. In other states, machines have recorded losses owing to droughts and high heat throughout the plant cycle.
