BRAZIL TO ALLOCATE BRL 12 MI FOR MARITIME PLANNING IN SOUTHEAST

The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) is investing BRL 12 million in studies of marine environments in Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, and São Paulo. This investment, part of the Maritime Spatial Planning (PEM) initiative, aims to enhance maritime economic planning in Brazil’s blue economy, which includes key industries like oil, gas, ports, and tourism. Covering 82% of Brazil’s ocean economy, the initiative spans the Blue Amazon’s rich biodiversity and resources. The BNDES selected the Southeast Blue consortium, formed by Fundação Getúlio Vargas and Environpact Sustentabilidade, to execute the project over 36 months. PEM will map resources, integrate socio-economic agents, and ensure sustainable coastal use, contributing significantly to the region’s GDP and employment. The initiative is part of the broader “Blue BNDES” strategy.
