CORN HARVEST IN MT REACHES 1.94% OF THE AREA AT AN EARLY START, POINTS OUT IMEA

The corn harvest in Mato Grosso, Brazil’s largest agricultural producer, has reached 1.94% of the cultivated area for the 2023/24 season as of May 24, ahead of the five-year average. This represents a significant increase from the same period last year (0.49%) and the recent historical average (0.64%). The early start is attributed to early sowing and favorable dry conditions aiding moisture loss in plants. Despite an expected annual decline of 14.22% in output to 45 million tons due to reduced planted area and productivity, harvesting is also starting early in Paraná, raising supply expectations. However, supply remains limited as producers await potential price impacts from hot, dry weather in key states.
