DEPUTIES FROM MINAS GERAIS APPROVE GUIDELINES FOR INSTALLING PLANTS IN THE STATE

The Legislative Assembly of Minas Gerais approved bill 1,896/23, aiming to regulate the establishment of sugar and ethanol plants in the state. Proposed by Deputy Maria Clara Marra, the bill aims to control the expansion of such enterprises and ensure responsible resource management. Requests for plant installation must be submitted to the Institute for Integrated Development of Minas Gerais (InvestMinas) and include location details, investment plans, and environmental impact assessments. Approved projects may enter into agreements with the state, committing to sourcing 30% of sugar cane from local rural properties. The bill also imposes a minimum distance of 60 kilometers between new plants and existing ones of the same activity.
