In the north and northeast regions of Brazil, the sugarcane harvest for the 2022–23 season reached 96% with a crushing of 55.97 million tons up until the first half of March. The amount crushed this year is 5.5% more than the 53.05 million tons crushed last year. The harvest will extend into April, according to Renato Cunha, CEO of NovaBio, as the North and Northeast regions’ plans were delayed due to the intense rains in February and March. With an increase of 8% from the years 2021/22, sugar crushing is expected to conclude the current cycle with a record production of more than 58 million tons.
