BRAZIL’S RIO GRANDE DO SUL PORTS WHEAT EXPORTS UP 233%

Port authority Portos RS released, on December 19, data on the cargo throughput of ports in Rio Grande do Sul from January to November. These numbers account for the cargo moved in the ports of Rio Grande, Pelotas, and Porto Alegre, as well as companies in the industrial district of Rio Grande. Rio Grande do Sul ports saw 35,838,523 tonnes of throughput in the first eleven months of the year, down 18.19% from the same period last year, also 3.51% lower than 2020. Out of this figure, 33,981,529 tonnes went through the Port of Rio Grande alone, which saw the passage of 10,002,230 tonnes of general cargo, 19,966,614 tonnes of solid bulk, and another 4,012,685 tonnes of liquid bulk loads. Wheat exports experienced the most significant increase, rising 233.40% over the previous year.
